Gone With the Wind

Gone With The Wind Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
I loved the book and can't believe I've never read this classic. While I often found most of the characters frustrating, I must be honest and say that I also related very closely to some of them. I think everyone would have been happier if they understood contentment. They each had their individual struggle with the life that was given them and the one they wanted. Perhaps if they could have recognized what blessings were theirs, they would have been happier. What a different time and place the South was prior to the Civil War. The reputation of gentility that the South still carries obviously comes from this era, but how sad the means that brought this about. What a time for women, to have such separation of roles, such responsibilities at a very young age and yet not the opportunities for education or the right to vote. I can understand Scarlett wanting to run her own business and be her own person!! A good read for fun or for anyone interested in US history.
