Grande Finale to the Weekend

So, after Karin left us on Friday, Emily and I sat together and watched A Little Princess. This is one of my favorite movies and has been since I read the book in about the fourth grade. We were only half way through the movie before Emily started crying. I felt a little guilty, but it's such a tender story and I knew everything would end up ok and Emily would just love it, so I didn't turn it off. However, when I tucked her into bed she was still crying and said she never wanted to watch the movie again. Sigh.

But tonight, her Uncle Creed took her out for ice cream for her birthday. I'm sure all of his other nieces and nephews are wondering why she gets treated like a princess. Well, this is how it happened. On July 4th, just a few days after Emily's birthday, we sat in our backyard watching Tom light off fireworks and Emily asked Creed where his birthday present for her was. He replied that if she gave him a birthday present, he would give her a birthday present. That night, after the fireworks were over, I found her sitting at her desk making Creed a book for his birthday (only 4 months late) and so tonight Creed returned the gift exchange and treated her to Baskin & Robbins.

Derek and Becca Theurer said...: Oh--that's so sad that Emily didn't like the movie. I watch it at least once a year, and it was the first book that Hannah and I read together. I will say, though, that as I watched it this year (having a daughter) I thought, that really would be the worst!

This Makes Me Happy

What color of make-up do you wear?

Emily takes gymnastics lessons. We've missed a few classes this summer and so last week we went to a make-up class. I was worried that Emi might not participate in a different class where she didn't know the other students, but she was so excited to go to class. She did great and willingly did everything that little gymnasts do. After class, we were walking hand in hand to the car and she asked me, "Mom, when do we get to put on the make-up?" I laughed but also felt bad because I knew then that she had been so excited because she thought she was going to a "make-up" class.

10 Games to Go

We only have 10 games left of our baseball season and what a great season it has been. It may never get better than this. Good times, good times. Scott pitched a winning game last week, went the whole game and threw 103 pitches (ouch!). Doug's team won league and he'll be the starting pitcher in this week's tournament championship game. Thomas is playing for the "Boston Red Sox" with his little league team. In his last game he walked to get on first, stole second, stole third and stole home with a nice slide (only in little league). It's been so fun to have Karin home in the cheering section. All the boys want her there to watch and of course she is the transportation to after game ice cream celebrations. It's so cool to have an older sister. Atta Babe!
