Put a Target on My Back

So, recently I've noticed that my children have been correcting me. Just the other day I was playing the piano and Doug asked me if I wanted the bass note to carry through the entire measure. If I did, then I needed to let the pedal up only half-way instead of all the way. Makes sense. Scott corrects my grammar, after all, life is not "funner", it is "more fun" with good grammar. Karin has been taking college courses that delve into human relationships. I know that she has had to analyze her own family .....I don't really want to know what she thinks because there are probably dozens of things I need to correct. During the summer, while playing catch with Thomas, he corrected my throwing arm.

It doesn't seem to matter that most of these skills my children now possess I actually taught to them. Somehow in the course of days and years they have surpassed my feeble abilities.

I remember I was mad the day Scott first beat me in a running race. After all, I was slower because I had had to push him in a jogger for several years before he could ride a bike and keep up with me. But I'm glad to say that I have matured since that day and I'm actually glad that my children are better than me.

My plan is to put a target on my back and then run like the dickens trying to do things I want my kids to do well. I know they see that target, run right by me and be winners in the end.

Molly, you are wonderful and your kids are, too. I love thinking about them all - and you. It is amazing that they are all getting so grown up.

Hmmm. I know no matter how old you are I'll always be 10 years younger than you, but please don't say "run like the dickens". I'm not ready to be 70!
