Inauguration
I loved the inauguration. I love events that remind us of values and promote patriotism. I'd like to read President Obama's speech with my children. I'll have to look for a copy. The first inauguration I remember watching was for President Reagan, I was pretty old to be tuning in for the first time, but I remember having the same feelings then as I do today. I recorded today's event so that my kids can see it tonight. Do you think they watched it as school? Doubtful. I hope this "first black" President marks a change in the heart of America, I hope we all strive to be better people. I think he inspires all of us to do that. He has a certain appeal and I wonder if leaders who have that charisma (for lack of a better word) have more followers. Do we follow leaders based on wrong, right or personal beliefs, or because we are attracted to them? I don't know, just thinking out loud. I guess because I believe in the role of this country, eternally speaking, I believe that as long as the people are striving towards God, the right people will be in place at the right time. It doesn't mean they all agree with each other (neither did the Founding Fathers) but they have a particular role to play. I know these are scattered thoughts.....just pondering.

Hey Molly, I was just looking for the text of the speech and found it here:

I'm glad you found this morning inspiring, too! I of course just loved it! How about that quartet on the "Simple Gifts" piece? Wow!!!
It occurred to me tonight, just before reading your post, that it's entirely possible that President Obama has been prepared for our time and for the presidency. I'm glad to see that you're pondering about the same things. It will be interesting to watch and see what happens.
I couldn't take myself away from the T.V. Afterall, it WAS history. Seemed at times like a Coronation! Loved Aretha's hat. Thought Obama's speech was inspirational, however, thought he could have left some of the "zingers" for another time...like maybe when Bush wasn't sitting right there? Did not like his reference to "non-believers." Makes me wonder what's coming down the pike. No doubt he is charismatic, appealing, and inspiring. Time will tell. Loved Yo Yo Ma's and Perlman's music, even if it was not live. LOVED the pagaentry of the Red Band playing Yankee Doodle. I just love ALL pagaentry!! Think it's neat that the mother-in-law is going to live with them. Who better to watch out for the girls. Glad they did't show Oprah's face, or maybe I missed it. Thought Malia, Sasha, and Michelle were gorgeous. Oath of office.....no comment. But, why the fuss about the re-do? Made sense...just to cover the bases. Loved that Obama wasn't used to saluting when he was supposed to. Can you imagine how it must feel to all of a sudden have these "roles" to play? Love that he is so natural and genuinely seems kind. He takes time with people. Loved when he got out or the Limo to walk. Closing prayer....again, it made me laugh, but the "white" zinger wasn't necessary. By the way....my kids did watch it at school! I'm glad. It's history. And everytime they showed an elderly black person I could NOT help but feel pride in my heart....and a little sadness for what a sad mark that is on our coutry's history. I remember as a fourth grader when our school was "de-segregated." My teacher was even black. Mrs. McCain. What a country......we HAVE come a distance. And, ALL of us should have felt a moment of emotion well up inside during yesterday's proceedings. The old black and white images and the unjust treatment still make me cringe. How must Rosa Parks have felt today? Abraham Lincoln? Prophets who have prayed for equality? And, obviously....Martin Luther King. Amazing day, to be sure.
