Blogging Manners

OK, so is there a book about proper etiquette for bloggers? I guess mostly I want to know, do I have to leave a comment on every blog I read just so the author will know that I have read it? I want there to be a place where I can leave a check mark that indicates that I was here but have nothing to say. What about the length of blogs? I've been so busy that I haven't been keeping up with everyone, so am I obligated (or perhaps I should want to) go back in time and read everything that has been written? Some people write book length blogs, what is the proper amount of time I should spend reading what someone else has to say? What if I disagree with someone, can I publicly express my disapproval or should I send them a confidential email or should I keep my opinions to myself? Perhaps in the book store there is a Blogger Self-Help book. Anybody read it?

Those are all great questions! I don't think this etiquette has really been fully developed. I think it's fine to read without commenting. I also think there's no obligation to read anyone's blog at all. It's just for fun. If someone gets offended about another person not reading their blog ... well, I just don't know what to say about that!

I am smiling about your poll, too. I used to blog because I was chained to my desk at work and really had nothing better to do. Now theoretically I am blogging as a journal. But it's not as motivating as the pure boredom that had me doing it before! I have not been blogging much at all!

Maybe we could find one of those yellow books, "Blogging for Dummies." Since I read all my blogs through Google Reader it makes it really hard to comment on all of them. Although, I do really love it when someone comments on mine. :) Okay, so I don't have any answers.....

I think technically you are supposed to post often, read the blogs of those who read yours, and leave comments. But I'm pretty sure there is not blog police that will put you in jail. And probably most people that you are blogging with are doing this for fun and don't stress about it. I wouldn't go back and read past posts, unless I really wanted to. You're busy but you still make time for what's important to you, if blogging isn't high on the list I don't think you need to apologize for that. Everyone has different outlets for different things. That being said, seeing a new comment on my blog is like seeing the message light blink on my phone, it makes me feel like someone cares about me! :)

I do think there is blogging etiquette but I don't think it's the same for everyone. As per your questions, I do not think you need to leave a comment if you don't have something to say. I do not think you need to back and backread, or even read a blog, if it doesn't interest you.

I am glad you are blogging, though. It's been awhile since we've been in the Matt and Molly loop and it feels good to have a glimpse now and then:)

Blogger etiquette is for those pent up individuals who feel it is necessary to tell the rest of us what to do. LOL:)
